Criterion-based assessment, not a percentage in disguise

PYP, MYP and Diploma Programme have genuinely different assessment models. All three are supported as they actually work — criteria and bands, not a percentage field relabelled.

How assessment is handled

MYP criteria A–D, assessed as criteria

Each subject carries its own criteria with achievement levels and band descriptors. Grades are determined from criterion levels rather than averaged from marks, which is the distinction most general-purpose systems lose.

PYP inquiry and learner profile

Units of inquiry, transdisciplinary themes and learner profile attributes are recorded as part of the student record, so primary reporting reflects the programme rather than a subject grid.

Diploma Programme 1–7 with core

Subject grades on the 1–7 scale, higher and standard level, alongside the core components that determine whether a diploma is awarded at all.

ATL skills tracked over time

Approaches to learning are recorded across subjects and years, so skill development is visible as a trend rather than a comment written once a term.

What the student record carries

  • Programme transitions kept intact — a student moving PYP to MYP keeps one continuous record
  • Criterion-level history retained, so growth within a criterion is visible across years
  • Predicted grades held alongside achieved levels for Diploma cohorts
  • Reporting configured per programme, because PYP and DP reports share almost nothing

Why this matters in the UAE

IB schools in the UAE frequently run more than one programme on a single campus, and often alongside a second curriculum entirely. The practical requirement is that one student record survives a programme transition — a child moving from PYP into MYP should not become a new record with a broken history. Continuity across the continuum is treated as a first-class requirement, not an import job.

Frequently asked questions

Is MYP assessment handled as criteria, not percentages?

Yes. Criteria carry their own achievement levels and band descriptors, and grades are determined from criterion levels rather than averaged from a percentage field.

Can one campus run more than one programme?

Yes. PYP, MYP and Diploma Programme can run together, and a student moving between programmes keeps a single continuous record.

Are ATL skills recorded?

Yes. Approaches to learning are recorded across subjects and years so development shows as a trend rather than a one-off comment.
